Susan Louie

Susan loves glass – glass objects – either functional or non-functional: it is a beguiling medium. What attracts me most is its luminosity, optical qualities, the heaviness, the fragility combined with its hardness, the endless possibilities….
Her latest work references childhood memories of life experiences living on a market garden as a Chinese New Zealander.

Susan has held office for the NZ Society of Artists in glass as Secretary and Editor of Glass News from 2004-2006 and elected President from 2006-2008.
In July 2009 she presented at the Going Bananas International conference in the section – Visually Chinese.

She has appeared in an interview about her work on Asia Downunder in 2006 whilst exhibiting at Sculpture On Shore at Fort Takapuna and in July 2009 regarding her work as a Chinese New Zealand Glass Sculptor.

Her last solo exhibition was by invitation at the Tairawhiti Museum, Gisborne, where her “Bowl of Wealth” was purchased by Professor Jack Richards and gifted to the museum for their permanent Collection.
She won second prize at the 8th Manukau Vessel and Sculpture Awards for her work “Sustenance for Winter”.

She currently works out of her studio in Waiuku, New Zealand.
